Baby Quilt

This is a row by row baby quilt I made for a dear family friend who just had a baby girl.  I wanted to try many different patterns that I had seen on the internet.  This was originally a part of a much larger quilt but was then taken apart and made into this pattern.
After taking an on line quilting class about machine stitching I used a decorative stitch to make small linear curves to quilt this.
I love how the curves gave the quilt a bumpy texture that none of my other quilts have ever had.

I hand stitched the binding because I was trying out a new technique I had seen at a recent quilt fair.  Hand binding is not for me and I had a very trying time of it due to the ongoing tendonitis I suffer from. But the end result was a very lovely quilt with a nice neat binding.

Summer Sewing

It was a busy summer for us.  Bar Mitzvah's and a big trip to Israel for another bar mitzvah celebration.  Summer camp and visits with family.  In between all of that I sewed up a ton of projects.

First up was to finish a project that I had first seen at Road2CA.  This first picture is the inspiration.  The pattern is from the Simply Vintage book which can be found https://www.fatquartershop.com/simply-vintage-magazine-issue-22.

Here is my version.  I decided to omit the writing.  I really like the concept of the log cabin which is half invisible and the other half bright colors.  This pattern is very popular now.  I love to try and find where the log cabin begins.  It is sort of like an adult Ispy quilt.

Next up were these adorable fabric baskets.  The pattern can be found here http://quiltingdigest.com/make-little-quilted-buckets-from-leftovers-in-your-stash/ and there is a great tutorial video.
Lastly I am doing the Merry and Bright sew along with Pat Sloan.  Her first block was a house block which I decided to turn into a Halloween quilt.  Pat Sloan has tons of quilt a longs.  I did one over the summer and am now involved in two of them. I love them because each week a new block comes out.  I never get bored and it is always something new.
I also watched the entire series of Jackie Gering straight line quilting on Craftsy.  I learned so much.

UFO - Unfinished Objects

After I attend Quilt Con in February I came back inspired to finish all my UFO's.  This camper panel was a part of an entirely different quilt that I hated and was sitting in the closet. I pulled it apart, added another camper panel and finished it off. I love it now and just need to find a place to hang it.

This is my house quilt.  This quilt top was hanging in a closet for at least three years.  It was a queen size and I didn't know how to finish and it and I didn't want to spend the money for the backing.  I went to Goodwill and found this adorable dog printed queen size sheet.  What goes perfect with houses - dogs.  At Quilt Con I was determined to figure out a way to quilt it. I actually saw this exact quilt but it was long arm quilted and that was not an option for me. I saw another quilted that was quilted with horizontal rows.  This was perfect for this quilt and my tiny Singer machine.  After many days and one entire audio book my house quilt was finally done.  It now has a permanent spot on the couch.

Quilted Hug

This is a quilted hug. It is a quilted bed jacket.  I made this pink one for my mom.  The outside is a jelly roll.  The inside is fleece.  There are two pockets on the inside.

After my Dad saw my mom's he wanted one. So I made him a Yankee one.  It is being modeled by my son who is almost as tall as his granddad.  These quilted hugs are great for keeping seniors warm and they keep your arms free so you can read, sew, or just relax.

Hawaii

I love Hawaii and can't wait to get back.  This is a pattern by Pat Sloan.  It really highlights the fabric and doesn't require you to cut the fabric into small pieces.  It reminds me of my visits to my favorite island.  The back of the quilt has batiks which further the Hawaiian theme.

Teddy's Quilt

Doggies needs quilts too.  My dog Teddy loves quilts and blankets.  He loves to eat them.  So I decided to make him one that was just his.  And if he eats it then oh well at least it was his own.  I used a new pattern called disappearing nine patch.  It was so easy and fun and I can't believe I had never heard of it before.  I did not put batting in the middle because hey, why waste good batting on what may become dog food. The back of the quilt is a flannel material. So far he has slept either on it or under it every night.

Round Up

Time to post a round up of all the things I have been working on and some past projects.  First up a braided table runner. I love the pastel colors on this and the braided quilt style goes together so quickly.  This will be on my table during the spring months.

Next up is Farm Girl Vintage from Lori Holt of Bee in my Bonnet.  I had never done sampler quilting and wanted to make one of each block in her book.  I could get lost in all the different blocks, colors, and shapes. I love this one to pieces and won't let anyone use it.

I attended Road 2 California for the first time last month and saw this adorable Jiffy Casserole Cover Kit.  I don't make casseroles but who cares. It was too cute to pass up and I can carry hot or cold item in it.

Lastly I have started my first Block of the Month quilts with Pat Sloan Quilt Along.  The first one is called Let's Go Camping
The second is called In the Summer Time.  I love getting the pattern each week and then feeling the rush of excitement to see how the block turns out.
