I love making paper dolls on my cricut. I made this bride and groom for a bridal shower we had for someone at work. I attached the dolls to wooden skewers and stuck them in the cake.

Star Wreath
Saw this at Little Birdie Secrets and had to make it. Was so much easier then I thought it would be. I cut out the stars using the George and Basic Shapes cricut cartridge. I don't have a scoring tool so I just folded my paper stars into shape. I used a needle point circle as the base. A little cardboard, glue, and craft pearls later and this baby was born. Cricut Fun

I turned around and it was October already. My last post was the middle of September. This time of year is so busy. Soccer, piano, back to school night, Halloween. So much fun. The house is decorated, the costumes are bought, and the pumpkins are at the patch. I love this time of year. I finished a great holiday quilt project but I can't show photos as it is a gift. tay tunred for that one. Tomorrow the kids have school but I am off. I repeat I am off. So I plan to shop and shop, and go to Joann's. I can't wait.
Today we had fun making cricut people. The boys were really patient waiting for there items to cut. And they glued them on by themselves. Wednesday, July 21, 2010
A bed without a quilt is like the sky without stars*

I have been wanting to add a wall quote to my sewing room for a long time. I explored purchasing one but it was too expensive. I ordered the removable vinyl months ago but finally got down to doing it this month. I went to my friend Jan's house (she has a Martha Stewart scrap booking room) and used her cricut. She has a larger version then I do and she has a 24" mat. Holy smokes this thing was huge. But it was the perfect way to cut out large items. I used the Storybook Cartridge to make the letters. The quote I found in a quilting catalogue. I looked at tons of quotes but kept coming back to this one. In case anyone thinks this looks easy let me dispel that thought right now. I had to cut each letter out separately. Each letter had to be individually positioned on a line on the wall. Each word had to be measured out so that it was equal distance from the other words. And because I have kids it took me an entire week to get the whole thing up on the wall. The boys actually thought it was neat and kept asking me what it said until we had all memorized the quote by heart. It is a very nice addition to my sewing room and I am very happy with how it looks. I also like the fact that I did the entire thing myself. Little pat on the back for me.

Monogram
I finally got my monogram up on the fireplace. I used the Storybook cricut cartridge. Of course it went on crooked but all of our stuff goes up crooked. It is just the way we do things. If you squint one eye it looks totally straight.Saturday, June 5, 2010

Stencil Candles with Recycled Jars
I finally got to work on a project I have wanted to do for a long time. Awhile back I saw a picture of a beautifully decorated night time table that used recycled jars with votive candles. I immediately started saving any glass jar I had; spaghetti jars, relish jars, pickle jars, anything that was glass. Then I heard about the glass etching using the Cricut. I watched a ton of videos on youtube and researched the craft on blogs and websites. First I cleaned all the jars and took off all the paper labels. I used a liquid product that takes off glue adhesive. I then cut out all my words using Cricut vinyl and the Plantin Schoolbook cartridge.
I then applied the vinyl to the glass. I didn't need to use the painters tape. I just used a tweezers to add all the little parts of the e and a, and any other letter that had a little piece.
You then add the stencil cream. I got mine at Michael's craft store. I bought the smallest bottle which should last a long time (I barely had to use any). You let it dry for about 5 minutes, then wash off the cream with water and towel dry.
Peel off the vinyl and remove all the little pieces and you have a great stencil.
This was hard to capture in the picture. It is not as strong as a stencil that you get from a professional place but it still looks really nice.
Here is the whole set of jars with votive candles.
This is what it looked like when I lit them all. The words actually show up a lot brighter.
I was really happy with how this turned out. It was very easy and came out better then I expected. I definitely plan to do this again. I want to stencil all my husbands beer glasses with his favorite sports team. I also think these jars would make a great hostess gift. There are so many possibilities.

Ahh quilting again.
This past week was so busy I barely had time to sit down at my sewing machine. I felt like I wasn't breathing. Quilting is such a part of my life then when I go too long without it I feel like I am missing air. So today I made sure to schedule some time in. The new quilt I am working on is so pretty that I may just have to keep it for myself. It is coming together very nicely and I am hoping I have the base put together before hubby gets home so I can take it to the fabric store to pick out the border and backing.
I recently purchases a Criciut. I have been coveting this machine for over a year. Every time the infomercial came on I watched it. Even the kids knew what the Cricut was. I am not a scrapbooker so I was having a hard time justifying the purchase. I tried out the Cricut at a friends home and even thought I loved it and it was so much fun to use I just couldn't figure out why I actually needed one. Then it went on sale. And the sale was too good to pass up. So I bought one. I cleared out a shelf in my craft closet and there it sits. I wasn't sure when or for what I would use it next. The other night I saw the infomercial was on and thought I would watch it to get some ideas. Well when I flicked to the channel I couldn't believe my eyes. They were cutting fabric appliques with it. Fabric!! For a Quilt! I never knew the Cricut could do that. Now my purchase is justified.
