Babushka Dolls

I love nesting dolls or as we always called them when I was growing up Babushka's.  This was a very hard quilt to complete and took a long time.  Each doll was painstakingly paper pieced using foundation paper.

 The grid lines had to be measured and drawn on with a washable pen.  The faces were drawn on with fabric marker.

 Each set of three dolls has coordinating fabric.

 The pattern called for another set of three dolls but 9 was my limit.  I really liked this pattern and I love the way it turned out.  But it was definitely a difficult project which took almost a year to complete.

Valentine Paper Piecing

Paper piecing is so much fun.  Especially when you do one of your patterns backwards. Can you find the mistake I made in this cute Valentine design?  It is sort of like an I Spy game for adults.  One of the hearts is facing the opposite direction of the other two.  That was not intentional.  Paper piecing requires a lot of concentration and attention to detail.  And when you have two 7 year old boys trying to ask you 50 questions, play in your sewing space, and generally annoy you it is hard to concentrate.  But I love all their noise and every time I look at this sweet design I will remember them.  Happy Valentines Day.

Paper Piecing

I have always wanted to try paper piecing. I first tried these hearts. They were super easy to make. I plan to turn them into a pillow or table runner. I love how clean and neat they look.

This tiny house was not as much fun. I decided that paper piecing small items is not fun. It took me an entire night to make this tiny 4" square. This goes to a pattern that requires 7 of these tiny houses. That is not going to happen. I guess that is why it is a good idea to try out new patterns before you commit to them.
